A Peek Backstage

God, you all must be super sick of hearing me talk about Sleeping Beauty Wakes but I can’t help it! It really is an awesome show and recently, Bryce Ryness and Aspen Vincent put together a little photo album on Playbill.com. I love looking at anything that delves behind the scenes. Anyway, I just wanted to post the link on here so you all can see the fun times it looks like. I don’t actually know how fun it is because it’s not like I’m part of the show but whatever, that is entirely besides the point.

Aspen and Bryce using the upstage crossover. Due to the rear projectors, the crawl space is only about five feet high. Effect on Aspen: 0. Effect on Bryce: High.

So just click on that photo and see the entire gallery on Playbill.com!

Oh! Also… Cyber cookies (the good kind, not the spammish kinds) to anyone who can find me in this one:

Cute and Cuddly

I know, I know… I’ve been posting a lot of photos lately. I promise I’ll get into the swing of blogging again; it’s just been an incredibly strange week where I’ve been super busy then super tired then super lazy. I’m hoping that will all change once my summer hours kick in at work and I get more free time on the weekends.

For now, though, I was browsing through some photos and found this pic of me and BFF. I completely forgot we took this!

Antics of a Child

Every now and then… I get stuck in meetings. I love hearing about our new books coming out but it sometimes gets tedious and tiring and sometimes, we talk on and on and on about a single title until we’ve talked it to the ground. For the most part, I don’t mind them, but every now and then I start to zone out from the monotony.

So how do I pass the time away?

I draw.

Keep in mind… I don’t really know how to draw. I’m pretty terrible at it. I draw worse than some children. But it helps to pass the time.

What do I draw?

See, I have this thing….

I really love some of our titles. I don’t love all of them but sometimes I really love one.

What does this have to do with drawing?

I draw out parts of the title as though I’m playing Pictionary and someone has to guess what the title is.

No, but really.

And… Despite my terrible drawings (really, they’re so childish) and the embarrassment that may ensue, I’m letting you all take a peek at what I’ve done…

Feel free to guess the titles I was drawing. Hehehe.

Take Me, I’m Yours!

Forget DRACULA and TWILIGHT. Forget the Anne Rice chronicles.

Truly, when fun and sexiness is needed with that extra oompf of the paranormal, Kerrelyn Sparks’ LOVE AT STAKE series is the way to go.

Sparks manages to write witty, humorous, and amorous tales of vampires, shifters, and the women they meet and fall in love with (or, in some cases, a female vamp falling in love with a male something-or-other). Each book focuses on a particular vampire but the names of the supporting characters become as familiar as a cherished toy or favorite blanket.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • There are two types of vampires in the world – the good guys and the Malcontents
  • The good guys drink synthetic blood, which is also used in the mortal world, mostly in hospitals
  • Roman Draganesti runs the whole thing – brilliant vamp, he is, and he starts off the entire series
  • Vamp’s eyes turn red when they’re turned on… and it happens a lot
  • These people (vamps?) get into a lot of shenanigans that are sometimes crazy, sometimes funny, and always amusing

And really, that’s it.

Each main character in the various books are unique and full of personality. What I love most, though, are the reappearances of characters from past books or mentions of past characters because it’s a glimpse into the “after” part without having a full, possibly unnecessary epilogue that would drag out whimsical and sexy plots.

For many romance novels, I tend to read them and leave them. They’re usually a break from reality that I think nothing of once it’s finished. This series is immensely different. I wait for the next title and get so excited when a new manuscript comes out for me to read. The thing is, Sparks writes characters that tend to make a comfortable home in my mind, and writes them in situations that I can’t help but imagine so vividly that I can’t help but wish I lived in the world she’s created. Some of those men (vamps? shifters?) are more than a little sexy and I can’t help but wish I were one of the heroines!

And on a side note… I shared the books with my sister and she called me recently to ask how many more there were and could I make sure I saved them so she could read. Unfortunately, there’s only one more released book that she hasn’t read and I only know of one more coming out this fall.

Dear Ms. Sparks, please say there is more afterwards. I can’t have this series ending.

Welcome to a New Kind of Tension

Mike shared these awesome photos of American Idiot‘s final soundcheck, which I was lucky enough to attend as his guest. Take a look at them!
