An Ordinary World

books, blabberings, and a life semi-common

In the Words of Dad

I think my dad is pretty freaking adorable. He’s one of those teddy bear types that you sorta just want to poke and hug. I don’t know.

Anyway, sometimes he says things that make my day. It’s just super cute and I end up laughing. Yesterday was one of those days.

Background: my father likes to joke around about his eating habits. Clearly, he is not of the svelte type (whatever, neither am I) but he laughs about it. Example – any time he finishes a full meal and someone offers him more, he’ll just say something like, “Oh no, I’m on a diet.” with a smile.

Yesterday: Dad wanted to buy a lottery ticket so we stopped at our local Stop N’ Shop. I asked him if he could buy a watermelon because I’ve been craving it. He bought that plus some other fruit selections and this was our conversation on the way home from the store —

Me: Finally! We have fruit in the house again.

Dad: Yes, that’s good.

Me: It is! ‘Cause, you know, I’m not really hungry at night anymore. I really just want something light now.

Dad: Me too! I’ve been doing that too.

Me: … Dad, I don’t think bread is necessarily light.

Dad: Sure it is! I hold it in my hand and it’s light – weighs nothing.

Me: *cue laughing* Dad!

Dad: Plus.. I toast it. It burns. It’s like burning calories from it.

*end scene*

Needless to say, I giggled. Maybe it’s just me, though. Hehe.
